Hello all.
Hello MMOC!
How to introduce oneself on a new forum?
Well, my name is David and I am based on the Isle of Wight. I am 34 years old and currently undertaking the rebuild of a Minor 1000 with my father.
He (the car) is a 1967 4 door originally in Almond (hence his monicker Big Al) and my Dad bought him for me when I was 16 and learning to drive.
I drove him for a year or two at school until a nasty MOT man declared him unfit for purpose. We decided he would be sympathetically modified and work started. Modifications, bare bolt strip and respray (not almond green) were undertaken.
Alas I went off to uni, got a job, time passed, started a family and Big Al languished in Dad's garage in his new coat but with no more attention. Things got in the way as per usual.
Current day, I am lucky enough to have a house with a garage. Convinced Dad to bring him round so I could finish (or at least start) the project that we started and here we are today.
So I've joined here today as a passionate fan of nearly twenty years and of a desire to get Big Al finished. I fully envision myself grilling the technical debt. of the forums so I hope you'll put up with me and my often daft questions.
We've promised that he'll be up at the iow rally this year, so hope you'll answer any questions in tech fast!
Nice to meet you all,
David, Doug (Dad) and Big Al.
P.S. Pics uploaded as soon as I have figured it out.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Hello all.

Hi,
Hoping it's the car, lets have some pictures, good to hear of another four door being saved. What colour are you going to respray it in?
And what's wrong with Almond green?!?

Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: Hello all.
Absolutely nothing wrong with almond green, but he was resprayed a dark, slightly metallic green way back when.
Look forward to all answers, daft or sensible. ;-)

Re: Hello all.
Daft questions? There's no such thing!
Well, there is I suppose there must be some, but just remember that there's nothing that you can do that the old codgers on this site here haven't already done - and that includes the most stupid, daft even criminal (engineering wise, that is) things that you can think of. So ask away.
Regards, MikeN.
Perhaps we should start a thread on the daftest things we've ever perpetrated on a Morris; for instance, once I was overtaken by one of my own rear wheels!

Morris Minor, the car of the future. One day they will all look like this!

Re: Hello all.
Your story reminds me a lot of my own; my father also bought the car for me when I was 15 although I never got to drive it until we finally completed the restoration a year ago (32 now).
How far advanced is the restoration? If the shell is already painted then the rest of the job should be pretty straightforward.
Upload some pictures! You just need to resize them so that they're not too big, hit browse below the text box and then hit preview so that you can add another.

Re: Hello all.
Thank you all for the welcome.
Hopefully picture attached as requested. Can take more if desired.
Essentially all welding and body work has been done and he is resprayed, the rear suspension and axle are on as is the front suspension and brakes etc. Everything else has to be done now and we are going through all of our boxes of parts, refreshing our memories and identifying what gaskets, grommets, chrome bits etc we need to order up.
I am currently busying myself by spraying various new parts like headlamp bowls and generally giving everything a good clean up for reassembly.
We are members of IOWMMOC and have been since early 90s as my dad had a van (which he stuck through a telephone box after a rear brake cylinder decided to go pop) prior to us getting Big Al.

Re: Hello all.
Evening Minorites.
Some photos from this evening for those of you who are interested- he's coming along slowly but surely.
Engine and gearbox mated up. That's in next so we can fix in the new crossmember. I know it's a simple little thing, but am really pleased with the finish on the heater. I think it looks really good. Used a sticker to re-do the front and you wouldn't know it wasn't fresh from the factory.[frame]

Re: Hello all.
By my standards that's nearly finished, looks fantastic. Where did you get the heater stickers from?
