Great thread! Worth a look, even if your name isn't Roy!

If we didn't have that breed of people around who nurture our transport heritage, the world would be devoid of some fantastic machinery, and rail infrastructure, in a working environment. I raise my hat to them, all of them, including Roy.

The one guy I really admire for creating the steam heritage we have today, is Dai Woodham MBE BEM who ran Woodhams, the Barry scrapyard in the 1960's and 70's. They took the copper and brass off the locos but kept most of the locomotives intact and rusting for many years after. This one decision eventually saved some 213 locomotives, (admittedly some needing a lot of work), to be rebuilt and put back in service by preservation groups, and others, for the pleasure of people today. An excellent job they have done too.

Dai, the guy at Woodhams who made that decision should have had a knighthood in addition to his MBE!

For those who want to see and feel the full force of a mainline steam engine when it is really working, go to Youtube. Search for the one of a King loco going through Warrington station at 70mph +. Turn the sound up, .....and enjoy!!

Can anyone tell which 'King' it was, I couldn't make out the nameplate.
