Block casting ID - c5 ?

Post by tash »

Hey guys,
I'm new here and unsure if its right place to post engine block matters here. Anyways, greatly appreciate some help.

Got a Morris supposedly to be 1955 - split screen.
Trying to find some ID of the block as the oil filter is currently using a PUROLATOR type adapter.
Thus concerns with the block for a 1955 unit.
Casted numbers : c5 K1 over the front, D4 over the bottom center, and standard 12A497 over the rear end.

What car/model/year this belongs to? Been searching all around but nothing links to c5! Any help will be very appreciated.

thanks[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Why does it matter ? Let's see pictures of the complete engine.

Car id details too please.

Any engine number - alloy plate under number 1 spark plug.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

If it has an oil filter screwed to the side of the block it is an 803cc engine, otherwise 948 or 1098

No mention of "1100" plate, so either 803 or 948?

But it is a 'thick flange' block - with a fuel pump access port... So probably an Austin type 1098 engine..... But the OP has gone quiet on us .......... :o :roll:

Delighted with the response...thank you guys. Those pictures were some shot I got in trying to id the block. Upload engine picture after I grab one as it's still in the bay. The plate reads APHM-xxxxxx, a 4 door saloon faj21 chassis.

Well perhaps it's a 948...but not being able to find any link is hampering my plans to save it. Probably Austin again, m not wise and experienced. It may help to know its fitted with larger 12g202 head, and there is no oil priming nut As in image 3. possible that it's newer 1xxx series?

APHM is the code for the original engine
A = A Series
P = Push Rod
H = Power Rating
M = Morris

An 803 engine has the oil filter screwed to the side of the block
A 948 engine has 950 cast on the side of the block under the front tappet chest
A 1098 engine has a plate with 1100 on it in the same place

If Tash had originally quoted "APHM" we wouldn't have wasted 5yrs of our lives
debating what engine it was...hence the groan... :-?

This info was taken from chassis plate, not the engine, which is why we are still none the wiser...

:-? oppps..I would have like spent my 10years and am still trying to figure what the code exactly means. What the engine plate says is one thing..Seeing there is no sideward filter as in original 803, I guessed its 948 or 1xxx...but instead of finding those number casted, as its on standard 950, I have some code which does not makes sense and m puzzled.

Cheers....its valentines...have fun..don't waste more years...let me know in awe someone figures out what the c5 k1 means...
