Traveller rear roof

So, I'm just getting started on our rotten traveller, the back has rotted enough that the wooden frame has sunk down at the back so I've jacked it up. Should the rear roof section be level, I've used a spirit level on the roof and it looks right, providing it is then I can use the wood as a guide for panels etc.

Just had the spirit level on mine and it's dead level. Could vary it a bit by changing the tyre pressures, perhaps! Garage floor is also spot on level.

Thanks, that's brilliant. I'd better check the tyres are all at the same pressure though

Wont the roof be at the correct level once the new wood is on? Or has the floor collapsed to the point it cant support the timber sides

Sadly when I said rotten I meant it, the rear boot floor is pretty much missing, the inner wing extensions have rotted through and there isn't much in the way of sills either. By getting the wooden frame level I can use itas a guide for where to let new metal in!

Great if we could see some photos. A well sorted traveller IS a thing of beauty. I'm sure yours will get there!

A completed wooden side bolted up to the B post and lightly supported at the rear should give you a more accurate line to work from. A spirit level on the roof mightn't be close enough, the springs could be uneven, the weight of the car (sans floor ) will both cause a problem.
Once it's finished though we'll both have Bermuda Blue travellers .

Unless you repainted it, of course. I favour 'Maroon B'. I wonder was there ever a 'maroon A'?

Bermuda blue, white cab roof and doors and a black and red interior just to be fully authentic for this car It started as a black standard sergeants car and then was given an exterior respray into panda colours I've started a restoration thread http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58991 so will have some pictures up tonight.
