Re: Engine cut out and backfire
If you don't answer the questions - I can't help you to sort this out. Did you find the rotor arm was on wrong way round?

Re: Engine cut out and backfire
If you can turn the rotor arm, then.its not engaged onto the drive properly

Re: Engine cut out and backfire
Which is my point..... NOTHING ELSE can move the timing 180 degrees - unless the dizzy has been dismantled and then re-assembled with the upper shaft put back on 180 degrees out. However - that wouldn't normally be dismantled for a points and cap renewal !

Re: Engine cut out and backfire
The rotor arm was fitted in the right position and the dizzy was not removed when I fitted I the points and condenser . It seems the dizzy is at fault as tried to fit to the old engine while the engine is out of the car and it still seems loose.
Re: Engine cut out and backfire
Still a bit confused, are you actually saying that with the dizzy fitted to the car,you can turn the rotor by hand,

Re: Engine cut out and backfire
The dizzy stayed in the in the car when I fitted the points and condenser ,it only moved when I went to start the car . I can rotate the rotor .The dizzy as it is now not fitted to the car but it seems it rotates a bit but then gets stuck . I have got a new dizzy and that seems a lot better than my old one.
Re: Engine cut out and backfire
Sounds like just about anything would be better.. It couldn't have been fully seated into the clamp ..
