You need to oil the rear bearing of the dynamo (it is VERY easy to forget) - it can squeal if it gets dry and if that is the case it will soon be damaged

...and then of course, if your dynamo is squealing then the charge will be affected possibly too. A badly lubricated dynamo will arc and do all sorts of nasty things to affect the charge (as I once found out on the M25...)

What kind of oil should one use?

Any light lubricating oil will do fine -I've previously used 3-in-1, I'm not sure if you have that in the Netherlands. To test a fanbelt's tension, push it down with a finger. It should be possible to push it down by 10-12mm without too much effort. Any more and the fanbelt will slip -but if you can't push it down by 10mm then the bearings will wear out and break up very quickly.

Can you get WD40 over there as this will work as well but wont last quite as long as a thin oil, you can probably also use Sewing machine oil as well.
