fitting new splitscreenrubber

Post by Kevster »

Does anyone know the best way to re-fit the two front windscreens . I have bought new a new rubber but after several attempts have not managed to get the outer lip to pull through. It appears that the unit when assembled is to tall to fit inside the frame . Any help would be much appreciated .

Its a pig of a job but can be done, best with around 3 people. Stevey did a bit with pics on his resto thread, think its page 14

Don't do it!!!
Too Late
I have seen what a mess so called windscreen fitters can make of it, chopping bits shorter to make them fit, leaving out the centre rubber and filling the gap with mastic etc etc.
I would only use a fitter with known experience, fortunately there is one not too far away

please do a search, been discussed many, many times and various ways to do it.Had one out three times and replaced on my own.Be careful using mobile fitters,as above they have a tendency to cut the rubber and stick it in,Not the way to do it.None of the new rubbers fit perfectly, they are a copy of a copy of a copy.

Do not fit laminated glass, it is too thick to seat in the rubber

and under no circumstances damage or throw away the chrome finisher, like hens teeth theses days and very expensive ,if they ever come up for sale. That's why you see s11 with the slot in the rubber filled with black mastic.

Wish I had kept the three I once inherited with a job lot about 20 years ago :(
