8" drums/discbrakes

Post by estepona1999 »

Is there any real advantage to having 8" drums etc compared with the standard 7" items.Would the braking be more efficient or is it better to go with a disc brake conversion?

The 8" front drums are MUCH better than the older 7" drums - and are perfectly satisfactory for any sane Minor motoring - with a standard car. Only worry about expensive discs if you considerably increase the car's performance.

No, just swap the whole assembly including back plates. You would be wise to fit new flexi pipes and make sure that you are buying a left and right backplate and wheel cylinders or use your old cylinders.
Discs are more than adequate and so is the cost

As above - 4 bolts and the brake pipe.... and you do need to tug the hub off - not difficult. And yes they use the same brake cylinders - so don't throw the old 7" brakes away! The front drums of course are the same as the rear - so handy spares there too.....

and although you can get away with the 7inch adjuster cams, better with the 8 as they are slightly bigger, and give just a bit more range.
