Re: Supermarket petrol.
Well I'm on folks, might not be the right place to ask ? But,I need tie plate, brake pipe grommets. I have been sent some from a Morris Minor "specialist" supplier. I can't get the brake pipe union through them. I would struggle to get the brake pipe through them ! Anyone know of a supplier who has the correct ones ? Large diameter hole in the middle of the grommet, that the union can go through !
Re: Supermarket petrol.
Hi
If you cant stretch the grommets over the unions then you could try cutting them with a sharp blade.. they will then fit.
Morris did this with some of the bulkhead grommets.

Re: Supermarket petrol.
Thanks Taupe. The specialists pic shows quite clearly the correct grommet, but sent bulk head ones. I spoke to them, they apologized, and sent the same ones again. I may have to cut them,as you say, but, before I do the final fit,and bleed the brakes, thought I would just ask. It may be the case that there is no demand for the correct grommets,so no one makes them anymore. !taupe wrote:Hi

Re: Supermarket petrol.
I know some of how that works, I'm 8 miles from Valero (Angle Bay), our town is the only route for LGV traffic, and we see them all heading out there, the name on the tanker is immaterial, the fuel all comes from the same plant - I worked on the fluid catalytic plant construction back when it was Texaco - So we have supermarkets, "brand names" and of course the independent Trucking that I assume has replaced the fleet of "refinery owned" Tankers that used to charge around here, they are all hauling fuel out of the same place, I often have a little smile when I hear of those who only ever use "XXXX" petrol in their car, they really have no clue about its real origin.1098 wrote:warweezil wrote: Very relevant point. I ran out of diesel once. It was a long walk to a petrol station, there are not that many left ! Gulf,me god's that takes me back as well. Regent even further !!! Not looking to labour the point re Supermarket petrol,but...first load today, from Shell,Stanlow. 2nd Load from Texaco ( Valero ) Trafford Park.Third load from Phillips 66 (Jet). To confuse you even more, first load, was done on Texaco's account..Don't ask
Its all Valero here now, with the loss of Murco at Milford the 4 refineries and 1 pipeline terminal that were operating here by the mid 70's has come down to 1 refinery and 2 LNG processing plants - 1 Formerly the Gulf refinery and 1 built on the brownfield resulting from the demolition of the Esso Refinery at Herbrandston. Valero now lease the old BP jetties apparently, and the company I once worked for as a kid "mooring and storing" the VLCCs operates only a tiny staff compared to back then

All that capacity and not a drop of leaded available

The voices in my head may not be real.... But they have some damn good ideas.

Re: Supermarket petrol.
I have had terrible trouble with grommets on my resto from the same supplier not being same as described or just pure crap. The tie plate ones I tried to stretch over the union nuts the grommet just split! I did eventually manage to get the wrong one on.
The petrol pump wire grommet was the one that I failed on could't get one to fit it's an imperial hole in the bulkhead and I think the supplier supplies metric grommets and can't get an exact match!
However a bloke in the opposite unit to us has referbed 2 Lotus' and he loned me an old assortment box of imperial one and I managed to get a blank to fit the hole and used a leather punch to make a hole for the wires
By the way I tried 2 Morris suppliers for the tie plate & petrol grommets and got exactly the same rubbish

Annoying ! Last brake re build I did, about 5 years ago,I was able to get them easily. I'll have to do what you did. Re: Supermarket petrol.
So I'm confused now, do I get my grommets from the Supermarket if they all come from the same place?

I always use super unleaded grommets, just makes the car run that much better, and certainly wouldn't risk getting them from a supermarketJohn Naylor wrote:So I'm confused now, do I get my grommets from the Supermarket if they all come from the same place?

Re: Supermarket petrol.
Oh Dear, have I upset a couple of unitary construction boys ! These are the grommets drivewasher. You can normally fit a brake union through them. No one is making them anymore.[frame]

The one I received, obviously wrong, fitted in the hole but had more rubber (if you can call it that) into the middle so it would not go over the union nut without stretching it on the tip of point nose pliers or circlip pliers

Couldn't you lift the grommets out of here, untangle the two threads and start a new one as I don't think anybody wishes to be inconsiderate but there is obviously a mix-up?

Filled up at Tesco today 83p per litre with my points
Filled the camper up, as it's got a big tank, but still got Ted the travellers tank filled for 93p per litre
Unfortunately the offer doesn't extend to grommets

I'll waffle on for another couple if you like
None of my vehicles seem sensitive to that supplied from the various fuel outlets, just put the cheapest in and they are as slow as ever.
