I have just aquired a large box full of spares inside to my surprise was an engine....... the engine number is oma-u-h-16623 can any one help me to find the size of this engine and maybe its age.

you may find a plate (looking from the front on the left side of the block) just below where the dynmo would sit. this plate is fixed just above the sump gasket line. if its there it will say the cc of the block. its below / in the area of the number plate you have mentioned. if the plate is not there, the cc may be cast in the block in the same area.

Well both my 1098 & 1275 id plates are on the front right hand side of the engine below the manifold.

By my reckoning you've got a 1098cc high compression engine from a late Minor with central gearchange. Hope this helps.
