how can i get the original reg number back

Post by graham1957 »

hello,i have a car which was originally registered LLM 550, this plate was sold by a previous owner in 1973,it now has ESU---. I have the green log book for LLM550.I have been on the london congestion webb site. LLM550 is not on any vichicle. So my question is would DVLA reissue it to my car and if you think yes how do i go about it?? Graham

The obvious answer is to ask DVLA.... But I'm sure someone with better knowledge will be along soon!

In 2007 when I bought my MM it had an age related plate, but it had an old MOT stating its original. I also found a tax disc between the parcel shelf and the battery box, these 2 original items along with a Heritage Certificate and some assistence from a club official and the original number was re issued on a non transferable basis.

Heres the form you need, I would also contact Rob Thomasson, the clubs technical tips adviser, his details are in Minor Matters.

The DVLA will only be able to re-allocate the original plate if it hasn't been sold. If, as you say, you know it HAS been then it belongs to someone else. If it doesn't show up as being on a vehicle then it is probably being held on a retention certificate by the current owner?

It certainly won't hurt to ask the DVLA but they are generally unwilling to divulge information regarding ownership unfortunately.

Filthy Lucre v Data Protection? At £2.50 a throw.

Almost as bad as donating £19 to the Salvation Army when its CEO's salary is
£150k - something wrong somewhere!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
