Minor Step side Pick up 1275 engine needed

Post by banting33 »

Help
I have rebuilt/modified a 1992 minor pick up. It had MOT and wooden pickup body. Strip down resulted in 80% of body and chassis being scrapped have rebuilt with new panels using a model T pick up bed and creating a minor step sided pick up, looks really good.

The body is nearly finished have acquired 1275 midget engine and gearbox, want the engine rebuilt. The firm I have spoken to gave price circa £1700 to balance and rebuild engine, new bearings modified cam etc etc trouble is I have phoned multiple times and get really poor response to messages (ie no call backs) to the point I am not comfortable using the supplier suspect I will be waiting months to finish work need in in 5/6 weeks.

Any body recommend a reliable engine rebuilder? or does anybody have a 1275 in A1 condition for sale? could part ex the 1275 engine I have with cash or purchase out right.

Has anybody dealt with Skiptune in surrey? Do you have any other ideas need this in next 5/6 weeks
thanks

Re build it yourself there are plenty of machine shops around who can do the machining for you, building it up is not difficult.

Or if you don't mind traveling try Gosnays in Romford, they have a good reputation with older engines.

Indeed, why not rebuild it yourself, seeing as you evidently have other car skills. I bought a Midget 1275cc engine for £60 back in the early 1990s and rebuilt it myself for about £200 - my first ever engine rebuild, and still going strong, some 60,000 miles later.

It's fairly straightforward, as long as you have a decent manual (the Midget Haynes manual is quite good), and do it meticulously in a clean environment.
