Re: LBM Models ?
Just finished ploughing my way through 11 pages.....yawn
If there were not so many quotes, repeats, insults, rants and totally irrelevant cxxp it could be fitted in to 4 pages.
I first stated that GPO never used 948 engines in 1970, I owned 65 FUU a 1963 driving instructors van with 803 engine/box/diff, clap hands wipers, 8in front brakes and large back windows
Reference to whatever company it was building convertible VWs, there were several companies producing convertibles/hatchbacks from saloons, Karmann, Abbot, Crayford, Lynx and others who performed their conversions on finished cars. This entailed throwing half the bodywork away, adding extensive strengthening and producing new roofs and other panels, resulting in extremely expensive finished cars and few sales with most if not all the companies going down the pan.
Incidentally does anyone know where all the roofs cut off Minor saloons were put?
Please do not quote the Series MM Register infering that it should have control over the MMOC policy, the Register remit is Series MM cars built between 1948 and 1953. Outside those dates it has no influence
Sorry about adding to the the irrelevent cxxp.

Re: LBM Models ?
So, are we settling for Convertables converted to 2drs(?) The NMP body
number system supports this.
The NEXT poser - which fits into the "Cannot explain it so we'll be lazy and
not mention it" category is the "AWMP"!
The "AWMP" stands for "Amended Wiper Motor Pedestal" - possibly due
to the positioning of the air filter(?), but all those owning late '50s Minor's
have a peek and note whether its' design - upturned box or a far more
complex design with a seam?
All sorted now, ta.

Re: LBM Models ?
Differences illustrated on pages 65/66 of Original Morris Minor - likely the change to
later air filter.
When did this change occur?

Guess what folks?
There is a 1955 LBM saloon for sale on eBay (needs resto), but is only around the £500 mark, see
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/No-Reser ... RTM2063723
The middle car in my Sig is a 1955 4-dr saloon - no LBM.
George.

Re: LBM Models ?
Not a bad car.
I wonder if it will remain affordable to 'Mr. Average' or get silly..................
It's in my watch list, as it will be interesting to see......
If I wasn't committed to other things at the moment I might take a punt, it would make a nice rolling restoration. The only tricky bit would be finding a match for the rest of the seats (to replace that knackered drivers seat). It would be a shame to loose the patina by replacing them with new covers..............
As an aside, judging by the way classic car prices are heading skywards in general for good examples I think the speculators are back..................
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: LBM Models ?
"a small percentage of cars were built with this feature"........ What a load of tosh. I have never seen a Minor 2door saloon of that age which DIDN'T have the "LBM"
Honestly. One bloke with a daft theory gets on the internet and the whole world think something is "rare"
I do agree though - I would be a shame if a car in that condition ever becomes unaffordable to enthusiasts. I don't personally think that is going to happen any time soon. There are still a good number of Minors available for reasonable prices and I notice that car does still have its chrome trim round the windscreen which is generally missing from cheap Series11 cars. A useful bonus!
