Welder essex

Post by ttwlr »

Any welders live near Basildon essex, need a price on fitting the spring hanger front panel, car is totally stripped down so no wing or axel in the way, I will clean it all up ready to be cut out and welded, I've done loads of welding already on it, but I am not confident to repair this section, and want to find out how much it will cost me to get it done.
I was tempted to plate it but not sure if it's advisable. Be doing to work myself to keep cost down, I have welder wire and gas so won't need to bring your own gear.

Thank you

Sorry I'm not near Essex but ensure you have taken measurements of the position of the dead centre of the hole on the existing front hanger. It is absolutely essential to line up the replacement panel correctly.Use more than one Datum point
e.g. across the car to the other spring hanger, back spring hanger to front.
I also made up a suitable wooden batten and drilled " exact distance " holes ...back / front when I did my pal's moggie.

There was a case on the Forum of a member who had the job done professionally ( ?? ) by a garage and then, sometime later,
when he was trying to refit the propshaft to the back axle, found that he had insufficient space !! The welder hadn't bothered measuring.

My pal wound me up at the time with howls of laughter about belt braces and safety net, etc. When he read the forum post
about the poor guy who had to get the work done again... he was suitably apologetic. It's the carpenter's old adage... measure twice , cut once.

Don't lose your measurements and good luck with it

That's why I don't want to do it, I don't want to mess up, I would sooner have someone who knows what they are doing fix it.

The cars in my garage at side of house so nice and dry

Good luck, the trouble is finding that person who knows what he's doing. If you've welded before, it might be worth thinking about taking your time and having a go, there are various ways of ensuring the correct position and being your car you're going to be careful. No harm in getting a price but laying under a car cutting stuff out etc is not pleasant and therefore not cheap, and a good job is not going to be quick.
