Recommend an underbody protection
I have my saloons body on its side for welding, but I am getting through it rather well and want to start thinking ahead about how I am going to treat it with regards to primer, paint, stonechip WHY. I was planning to etch prime it, then over this stonechip it then black chassis paint over that, but is there a better product (s) to use? What will provide the most long-lasting, resilient, non-sticky (like underseal or waxoyl) finish at a sensible price?

Re: Recommend an underbody protection
hello,i turned body on its side and then cleaned every bit of it back to bare metal. Then i degreased it. After doing that i gave it two coats of Electrox zinc primer, brushed on, then seam seal with polyurathon mastic and then two coats of spray on stone chip with shultz gun being carful not to get the first coat on too thick, as it can wrinckle up the zinc due to the very aggressive solvents in it. if required the body colour can then be applied for cosmetic purposes but not needed for protection. Dynx x 50 was then sprayed into all box sections to protect it from rusting inside to out. Electrox and dynx is advertized in practical classics, hope this helps, graham

use whatever product you like but the final coating,in my opinion, should always be a non setting agent,ie waxoil ,or similar. a product like stone chip, sets hard and can crack or chip which lets water under neath. Oil based non setting agents are SUPOSED,to self seal if damaged,I have used waxoil on my 55 for the last 30 years, reapplied every two or three years,There have been no repairs required to the underside.Prior to my ownership the previous owner used to spray every year with old engine oil.But that was probably before the likes of waxoil hit the market, not too sure its as good as it was years ago,but still seems to work.It also has,if you believe the marketing, the ability to kill existing rust . Its what I am confident in and thats what matters .
