painting my wheels mm traveller in green

Any one got any ideas ive just started cleaning the backs and thought id give them a repaint, they were an off white, so a colour code paint type. A cheep way would be good.... just looking for your thoughts.

What sort of green - the same colour as the body, i.e., Almond green or similar?

As for paint, you need something durable to last on wheels, so some form of enamel type paint or smooth Hammerite would be best. Thin spray paint such as from aerosols will be showing rust through in no time at all, unless you use alot of coats and lacquer clear coat to seal it all in.

Hi Alan,
Hammerite Smoothrite Magnolia is a good match. You should get a good finish if you prepare the surface well, use a decent paintbrush too.
How's the recovery coming on?

I was looking for the magnolia lately, they dont do it any more but there is a cream smooth hammeritre which is slightly darker but still a good enough match.

It was mentioned on here recently that B+Q will mix Dulux paints for metal in store. Maybe a worth popping in with a sample and getting them to mix a litre for you?

Rich Im doing well thank you for asking, Any internal bleeds have stopped and with the stents I feel much more active which is good considering we will be having our new baby delivered by c section on monday, ill need all the extra energy and have little time for the car...

re the car i havent done much over the last few months because of lack on money and my health, but i have pushed it into a large tent which keeps it almost dry and over the last few days put the front on ramps and the back on wooden blocks with an rsj going from wheel arch to wheel arch so I can work on the U bolts, springs and wheels...

the great thing about having a mm is that the parts are not exspensive so I can buy things on ebay at a low price and do things bit by bit with no rush... for anyone who doest know myself and anna have very little money, when i say little i mean little - we came to the UK with just 79pense in english money, we both study english... my wife anna works as a nurse and now we send money back home to help our familys. I sell over priced items on ebay these items i do not have and have never seen but i find low priced items and add maybe 5£ to that item and sell it allowing the seller at the low price to post the item to the customer this gives me about 25£ each week to spend on my car or whatever i like. in the last year we are due to have our second child another boy! who is breach and so slightly earlyer than expected he will be delivered on monday via c section... over the last three months ive had some heart problems and had a stent put in which followed by internal bleeds...

all of the above explanes why my car project is slow however progressing, my budget is also low however my car is still progressing my tools keep getting taken by people inside our house or by people from outside however i will keep on with the car as its my passion and i believe im making progress.

my determination and enthusiasm is empowered by the encouragement off others mainly people from this site so i want to thank you...

That's helped me too. I am at the same stage and didn't fancy using cellulose spray cans so I will also be using Hammerite. Got to be off white/ cream for me, I remember BMC changing to silver and never liked it. I know BMCEcosse says use duluxe and don't waste money but I won't tell him if you don't...

Hammerite is horrible stuff... Seriously - the 50/50 mix of Dulux gloss Magnolia and White is excellent match for Old English White and very tough and hard wearing. Brushes on nicely too!

I went for 750ml Hammerite Cream at £15.75 delivered from Ebay and it's not a bad match with the grille (old English White). I used cheap paint stripper from B&Q (Dial <£6) which was quite good when applied to a wheel and left in a plastic bag overnight. Should be enough paint to do 2 coats on 5 wheels, 1 done so far...[frame][/frame]

Hi Alan,
I bought 4 wheels for £7.62 on Ebay! And when I collected them the guy gave me a set of wheel trims and 2 windows for my Traveller doors to replace my scratched ones. Don't you just love Minors!
