My first Minor

Post by LouiseM »

Whilst browsing on ebay last night I came across an advert for my first Minor (Terry). I owned him for 10 years and drove him daily until I sold him in 1996 when I was tempted by a black '66 2 door. The buyer was a teacher who was going to take him to Germany were he worked. He had new wings fitted, a respray and a recon engine during my possession, and also featured in a Minor Matters article. It's a pity to see him in such bad condition now but good to see him after 18 years. Hopefully someone will restore him back to his former glory :D http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261667049808? ... Ah, ones first love Lou.
Those sunny carefree halcyon days of wine and roses, those lazy hazy crazy days of summer..................
I note the low mileage advertised, surely twice or thrice round the clock?
Tempting though all the same I imagine, I still daydream about finding my first motor again, :(

If you get him I have a better bootlid (wrong colour) that you can have for free.

Problem is I have no where to store him plus I have a dodgy knee (caused by fitting a new interior to the traveller) and a damaged thumb which will limit the amount of work I can do myself. I'm probably in a worse state than the car is :(

Yes. I was young and carefree in those days and hadn't read BMC's warnings  I also had the windows security etched, which you can see in some of the photos. And my MMOC sticker is still there.

It had definitely been round the clock at least once when I had him but if the recon engine I had fitted is still in it he might not have done a lot of miles since. Depends on what has happened in the 18 years since I sold him!

Could easily have gone round the clock a couple of more times in the past 18 years. When I bought my 2CV in April 2002 it had 70k under its belt. It's now on 238k.

Some guys race 2cvs, they have their own series, featuring both short "sprint" races and longer endurance events, its amazing to watch a team swap an engine and gearbox in the paddock in just a few minutes. They have raced a few times at a local circuit where I Marshal sometimes. I know some would throw thier hands up in horror but its no different to the other classic racing series that exist in the UK. Its fun watching little A series engined BMC models competing with stuff like Lotus Cortinas, Triumphs and even Jags. A couple of years back I saw a really quick Austin A40 race that had a really well sorted out "A" series under the bonnet.
The voices in my head may not be real.... But they have some damn good ideas.

Still lots around. There's about 4000 on UK roads, plus so many SORNed (like mine for winter). The bi-annual 'World Meeting' which is hosted by a European country is a massive event. Back in 2011 the French held it in Salbris, near Orleans, and some 8000 cars swamped the roads of the town that has a regular population of around 5,500. I was stuck in a massive traffic jam of 2CVs, Dyanes, Amis, Meharis, and H-vans. Took over six hours to get on to the site. It's in Poland next year.

Germans mainly. What goes around, comes around  The 2CV is massive over there, and in Holland.
