I've no idea...(although I guess BSP) but my advice is to leave them firmly well alone - if you haven't disturbed them already...

I have removed and replaced both with no problem but was thinking of fitting a thermostatic fan switch in the blanking plug side instead of using the large capillary type contraption supplied with the fan.

I believe the drain cock a doodle diddley is 1/8th gas. take it to a plumbers merchant and compare it with their 1/8th gas blanking plugs.
someone has kindly added doodle etc to my post, for some reason.

Because you used a naughty word - c0ck -
Fan switch needs to be at the top of the rad - or in the top hose to be effective.

Really?, My Skoda has a fan switch and it is located right at the bottom of the rad.

Your engine will be boiling at the top before the lower hose gets 'hot' .

Yes I see what you mean Roy, maybe I had better stick to the probe type thermostat which pokes under the top hose.

I measured the blanking plug on a spare radiator. To me it seems to be an odd-ball, .650" OD, 20TPI.

I measured it up and the one I have is a 1/8" x 28 BSPT thread.
