What spanner do i use?
Hi ,
I have a 1954 series ii I am trying to check the gearbox oil. the bolt head size is neither 3/4 nor 19mm (out of desperation I tried this) what orientation are the bolts on this car an where can I get the right socket set?
Kind regards,
Mike

Re: What spanner do i use?
use a metric sized socket that is about right. then put a piece of cloth in the socket to 'pack it out'. this will undo it.
Re: What spanner do i use?
try 18mm , it's a perfect fit on s2 wheel nuts which are 3/8 whitworth so should be fine
Re: What spanner do i use?
It is indeed the 'wheel nut' size - the starting handle should do it...... 18mm is unfortunately not a 'preferred size' in the metric system = but yes if you can find one it is within 2 thou of the 3/8 whitworth socket...

Thought I was right. 18mm sockets are easily available in sets or separately at Halfords or get a 3/8W for a few quid on eBay.
Glad to be back!

I think you'll find not included in normal sets.... but they are around - more common than the 3/8 Whit sockets these days.. I buy all I can find at autojumbles, but never more than £1 of course...

Not in either of the two metric sets I have.... 17mm then 19mm. But they are certainly not 'fancy' sets just the basics so I can pretend to do things to my TR7....

I wouldn't consider Halfords as 'fancy' sets but they all include 18mm and are surprisingly good quality for a sensible price.
Glad to be back!
