Re: new engine mounts rubber to hard
update on engine mount saga , i just fitted one old mount and drilled 6 x 1/4'' holes in a new one and it's much better , i am also thinking the gear box mounts are the same rubber so will need sorting as well ,

Thanks Martin. Was the drilling of the rubber straight forward? It's not something I've done. Any clever lubricants (and no rude jokes please from the rest of you!).

Morris Minor, the car of the future. One day they will all look like this!

Usually water is used for cutting rubber.... But if it's hard as hell....it may not matter.

Re: new engine mounts rubber to hard
it drilled very easily as the rubber is so hard , i went along the centre line of the rubber and the drill slightly touched the mounting stud ends , i might try drilling my other mount but a bit bigger

Re: new engine mounts rubber to hard
Just to add to the chorus - about a year and a half ago, I tried to replace Mog's old rotten mounts with brand-new ones from a Midget parts supplier in Kansas. Upon firing the engine, I thought the poor thing had broken its crankshaft! The car vibrated hard and the engine noise was a tremendous clamor. I immediately went back to old rotten ones, and problem solved.
Trouble is, I'm still using the rotten ones...NOS ones are already shortlisted for the upgrade project.

The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!
