Ok so I have a feeling I know what the leak could be but I'm open to opinions before I fix the previous owners scary fix :-?

Ok so the leak.....
When I first bought the moggy there was always a large leak in the drivers side. Behind the drivers seat the insulation was soaked and so was the carpet.

I thought due to having traveler tops on the doors they were the problem. So the top was bent in making a seal up against the rubber. I thought this had fixed it but the other day I thought I'd have another look as it had been raining heavily recently.

And sadly I have still the same issue, I should say though it's not as bad but it's still almost a swimming pool in the back (now thinking about it it doesn't sound to bad :wink: :lol: )
But it does need sorting

This is the how the insulation is[frame]Image[/frame]
After cleaning and mopping it all up it was left for a day and after a day of light rain this seems to be what the out come is this is a puddle not a hole :lol: this is down the side of the drivers side up against the box section[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Ok so this is the scary fix that I think is causing the problem[frame]Image[/frame]
There has been holes drilled into the body to cable tie the door rubber in place I think the holes are the problem and also that the rubber isn't sitting properly on the body work to seal the door

Does anyone have any other ideas and also how should I go about sorting the drilled holes out

Hmmm never thought of that :lol: would they come that s all though :-? I thought maybe sand the inside of the holes and primer over as he never put any protective seal over the exposed metal and then filler

it's probably obvious to you ,and you have no doubt done it. but ist you need one of the later type new seals and fit it to the door frame properly,as it should be. If it was mine I would fill the holes with black silicon or tiger seal then slip the rubber on while its wet,once cured it would stop any leaks and corrosion.

Seal looks too damaged tbh

Block up the holes with Edam cheese wax coating and smear panel with
vaseline - if you don't like Dutch cheese you're stumped!

Probably end up having to buy a new door seal though.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Are you on about the new door seal that ESM have but is ony available in black but needs no clips? I have wondered if I should just go for that but I wanted to have it matching the otherside but how good are they? I may consider the change for both sides if there worth it
And ah right thanks for the tip :) so your saying put the sealant in and put the rubber straight on the door frame?

I was honestly planning to replace the whole rubber anyway because well it's just a complete mess..... At the front just were the quarter light would seal to this is what is there or should I say not there :lol:[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

So I think ill get a new seal or of the newer ones are alot better ill go for them :)

Just fingers crossed it fixes it because well..... I'm out of ideas :S

Get rid of those horrible woven fabric door seals and the clips and get some decent push fit rubber seals

They are fitted to my traveller and didn't realise they weren't original fitting until now, they work a treat :)

As I said,get rid of both seals.and fit the full rubber type,that is unless you are a concours fanatic,the old fabric seals are just about done for.And yes put the sealant over the holes and put the rubber on straight away,it will all seal up as it cures.

Haha ok ok ill get the black rubbers :lol: fingers crossed that will fix it xD and no I'm not a concours fanatic but I do like the fabric ones though but o well aslong as this foxes or atleast improves it all :)

I suggest you look elsewhere for the leak...especially at the side window seals.. Certainly the door seals you have are poor - but probably not the source of the leak. And obviously - remove all carpets and underlay meantime !

Another possibility is that it is coming from the underside, with the water finding its way inside the box section that the rear seat mounts onto. From there it can seep into the rear floor.
I mention this, because it is common for rust holes to develop at the front of the wheel arch and around spring mounts.
Worth checking, I reckon.

Yeah ill replace the door rubbers and if that doesn't fix it then ill look elsewhere. I am planning on replacing the window rubbers anyway but there doesn't seem to be any wet patches on them there is a small puddle that forms just here though

And don't you worry I've removed it already and I'm mopping up the swimming pool everyday :lol:[frame]Image[/frame]

Hmmmm yeah that's a possibility. I have two little rust holes on that box section along the bottom of the door but the box under the rear seat is dry and rust free when I take the seat base out or is there a hidden box section under that?

I seem to recall a thread mentioning a problem with the saloon rear window seal ,or was it the boot seal, letting water in and collecting in the cross member under the rear seat, could this be the issue and the water finding its way into the footwell.

Hmmm well that makes sence but I got a little carried away and well the rear seat base is out and the side interior panel and it's all bone dry under the seat and it's bone dry inside the rear quarter I've left them out until it rains next and ill see under there aswell just fingers crossed its just the door rubbers or window rubbers though otherwise there will be a fair bit of welding taking place :(

Hopefully that's eliminated that possibility. You could try sitting inside while someone drenches the car with a garden hose.

Did you look through the holes in the top of the box section (you will need a good torch)?
My Traveller was badly rusted in there.

It will be great news if it is dry and rust free in there.
