No Ignition System Power?

Hello.

Just bought my first Morris Minor 1000 with my Father-in-law for a bit of a fun hobby. She's running fine, however when i went to take her to work the other day i noticed that the indicators, fuel gauge and washer wipers weren't working!
I've check the fuse (A3 - A4) and its fine. I've checked the wiring and can't see anything amiss.
I've taken off the old side lights and flashers (as they were pretty rusty) to make sure they weren't shorting. Still no luck.
The engine ignites fine and the main lights work either way.
Any idea where the issue may be? I'm going out of my mind trying to work it all out!

if you have a circuit meter can you check for any current following the green wire from the ignition switch ?, I had somthing similar once and it was due to a poor connection, have a look at the electrical diagram at the top of this section of the message board, there may be a bullet connection thats pulled out, suggest you also could check the wiring security behind cardboard pocket in front of the streering wheel, good luck !

With the ignition on you should have +12v(ish!) to the purple wire/s on the fuse box - if you have a meter to test it with.

The chances are that the 12v is there but the fuse box connections are tarnished/dirty or the fuse may be faulty. I've seen fuses in the past that look fine but where the fuse wire is soldered to the end cap has fractured. Try swapping the two fuses from side to side, a quick and easy test.

Ok, thanks. I'll go and get myself a multimeter tomorrow and start testing!

I swapped all the fuses around first as, like you say, one may have been faulty - but no luck!

I'll print out the diagram and get a highlighter out of the drawer. I'll let you know if I find the fault...!

Never let an old car make you go out of your mind. They are a hobby as you rightly say and all things to do with them should be fun, even these problems. You can always just have a beer and sort it at the weekend

Buy a multimeter, dont rush and watch a few youtube videos on how to use it, you will soon be working again.

Very often, the artful bodger will have struck years before you bought the car, I have a Minor that just wouldnt start until I let go of the key! In the end (and with the use of a multi keter) I established the voltage at the coil was only 9 volts at rest. Further testing traced this to a previous bodge in the form of a twisted together wire at the back of an aftermarlet smiths ammeter.

Do the brake lights and heater work? They are also fed by the fuse with white wires one side and green the other.
If they don't work either then it will be the fuse or spring fuse holder or wire terminations at the fuse box.

The ' Ignition ' power is supplied to the fuse block on a white wire... As others have suggested - it will be bad connections - most likely at the fuse block since the fuel pump and coil are obviously being powered (directly by white wires) to run the engine.

My mistake, it is white wires into the fuse and greens out.

Did everything as suggested. Turned out the fuse box was a little knackered. Cleaned up the connections and it seemed to work- but then, all of a sudden, power went again. So I bit the bullet and replaced the entire fuse box (a like for like replacement for a Lucas one) and it all works like a dream!

A real joy to have fully fixed something! Next job - window seals...!

Believe it or not, a good way to clean fiddly electrical connections in a good soak in brown sauce. Leave it for an hour then scrub off
