morris gearbox information

can anyone tell me if this is the original gearbox( correct year ) for my morris , the number stamped on the top is ACNO8362 , thankyou

For a starter - It would be easier for you to give the year of manufacture of your Minor and whether the gearbox you are querying has a smooth case (non remote 803cc), smooth case with remote (948cc) or ribbed case with remote (1098cc/1275cc) and then we can work from there :wink:

803 gearboxes in early 1954 were in the 45xx range.

Is it a tail-end MM or S11?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

thanks i was looking for some one who might have the information reguards to numbers on the gearboxes , the car is 53 and the smooth type , so if in 54 they where at 45++ i must think this is a replacement box

A Production Trace Certificate should give you the original engine/box/axle numbers

thanks , if the information given by pommreg is correct it must be a replacment (all be it early) and the cert is £40 , so may just leave , thanks again
