bolt type gearbox cover and crossmeber

Post by TvdWerf »

When I bought my car as unfinished project, a lot of bolts and nuts were there, but not all of them.
And the fitting bolts for the Gearbox Cross Member are missing.
To find them, the first trip today was to the Massey Ferguson dealer, together with the Gearbox Cross Member, but without success...
Can someone tell what the right type for the bolts is?[frame]Image[/frame]

The type is brass with a large cross-head, there should also be some special washers that look like those those that you can use with counter sunk screws on flat wood.

But what type of thread?
I found also Brass for the newer types, but is this also for the MM?
I have the '51 service parts list, but could not find the part there..
Maybe my parts list is not complete ;)

I'm not sure, isn't there a sticky with all the thread sizes?

The only information I can find in the parts list is 23 from 630/E, 4 from 630/G, and 27 washers 278/AW/2, togerther wit 27 washer cups 64401.
The 4 bolt for the cross member has another number, P737/D/1
But this is not the way how to order local ;)

The gearbox cover set screws all have the same thread, the four which secure the top of the cross member are slightly longer. The four bolts securing the bottom of the cross member I think have Whitworth heads. Have you tried M1000 bolts?
I just tip a large tin of nuts and bolts onto the floor and rummage through them until I find one that fits!

IIRC the ones that hold the crossmember are 5/16" BSF thread and the ones for the cover plate are 1/4" BSF thread.

I think that they may be the same thread as the prop shaft bolts but shorter

Because I did not have any bolts from the M1000, I never had this type, I cannot try.
This is the third Morris, but number 1 and 2 were series 2, so a m1000 was never in my barn ;)
I have the crossmember in my car, together with the only 2 bolts...

The Series MM prop shaft bolts (8 off) are BSF threads (1/4 Whit heads) and should be the same thread as the gearbox cross member bolts. Sorry, have not got access to my car to measure the bolts
