Rear brake shoes

Ok, so. I think I've found the problem in Morris funny rubbing sound, popped the brakes open to have a look and the longer of the two springs, the one closest to the cylinder isn't attached and is just rubbing against the hub!

Next question, what order do I get these in!? So the springs have to go behind the shoes, do I hang the long spring on first, put the cylinder end of the shoe in, then how on earth do I stretch that fat spring over the pivot post?

Leave the shoes outside the rear shoe mount with spring loosely hooked in place and then gently lever them over with a decent long screwdriver.

I'm no expert but it's one of those jobs where a bit of thought goes a lot further than brute force. Those spring are powerful and dangerous under tension if they slip. Keep fingers well out of the way. As you fit the shoes work out how you can move/lever the shoes in stages so that they won't slip as you increase the spring tension in stages. There's no way you can just pull them apart in one hit. It's hard to explain in words but there's no need for it to be a horrible job. The weaker spring nearest the cylinder is a bit of a pain and tends to fall off until it is under tension. It's a nuisance trying to fish out and put back on. As with all jobs, really good light helps a lot. I have a very cheap, small, Ikea bendy light that is designed to clamp on a table. It can clip on almost anywhere and helps a lot.

You really can ! Just pop the cam adjuster out, then slip the shoes off the cylinder losing that spring on the way and then pop the shoes off the rear mount and that spring falls away too. Reassemble in reverse order - using a 12" screwdriver to lever the shoes over the back mount and the fronts pretty well fall into place - and slip the cam adjuster back in. Simples !
