my mate has a mini 950cc
he had the body work restored
has now got to the stage of starting the engine
he has replaced the dizzy with a acuspark unit , he also has a recon carb
he says it will not fire , there is a spark and fuel
i asked him if he had adjusted the carb and he said no
so my question is this
that there is to much fuel so flooding it,
can not get engine going

Re: can not get engine going
Did he re-time the dizzy after fitting the Acuspark, I didn't and that's what happened
Check the carb needle - is there one? Has he fitted the fuel line to the correct connection on the carb?

yep all ok on carb is a recon
so i guess must be set way to rich for it to start
does not even attempt to fire

With that much fuel in the pots it sounds like it's squirting straight in, as has been suggested check the float hasn't stuck open or is holed and has sunk. Did you check the fuel line wasn't connected to the vac line by mistake.

Re: can not get engine going
Assuming the engine is assembled correctly - and the valve gaps have been set - most likely is plug leads on wrong plugs! It's never 'too rich' to fire from cold - unless of course as others have suggested - the carb is flooding right over - and indeed someone mentioned possibility of fuel line on the wrong connection on the carb. Take the fuel line off and plug it for now - then after drying the plugs - pour an egg cup of fuel down the carb and crank it... If it doesn't start - move the leads round one place anticlockwise and repeat etc till it starts.
