Trunnion bushes

Just checked again and my digital vernier reads 0.063".
Checked accuracy of the digital vernier against a Dormer 0.5" drill and spot on.
When I can get to my standard Moore & Wright micrometres they have calibration discs and I will check the digital vernier against the discs but I do not expect the readings to be any different.

Checked the accuracy of my digital vernier against several Moore and Wright micrometre setting gauges and only 0.0005" out over the range of setting gauges used i.e. 1"-2", 3"-4" & 5"-6" measurements.
I have pressed out qty 4 bushes from a pair of New Marina/Ital after market bottom trunnions and fitted a pair into a Minor bottom trunnion.
No reaming required as I expected.
What was surprising was that one new Marina/Ital after market bottom trunnion was fitted with solid non split brass bushes with a straight grease passage and not spiral as per the split bush.

Here is a picture Mr BMC, the original post about these has gone for some reason.



As you can see, there is a section that screws on to the swivel pin then the trunnion on to that. Presumably either or both of these can be replaced so that there is never any wear created on the swivel pin. They really felt quality as well, just a shame they couldn't be made for the Minor.

The Marina/Ital bottom trunnion threads wear just a badly as the Minor ones if not looked after.
I have previously owned a 1800cc Marina and a 1.7 Ital and they both needed work doing on the bottom trunnions.
The reason that size of the swivel threads in the bottom trunnion was increased was I believe because of the fitment of the larger drum brakes and on some models disc brakes.
Fitting the disc brakes to Minor swivels does not seem to have had any ill effects even with the smaller dia threads fitted to the Minor bottom trunnion.

I think the problem with adapting to the Minor is clearance with the backplate at the bottom and the closeness of the damper pin to the thread at the top. These Walford trunnions are really substantial and quite a bit larger than the original trunnions. The thread arrangement feels a quality fitting, much better than the current "how loose/tight will my trunnions fit on the swivel pin" situation. I never found out for sure if Walford Automotive were still going in Wolverhampton. Can't find the email now but seem to remember talking to these people http://www.whtildesley.com/ about walfords a few years ago. I'd love the situation to change and for these to be available for the Minor.

If specials were made up to this design...they could have an element of negative camber built in too!
