Help needed registering Minor with no ID.

Post by stevieG1 »

Hi I am new to this forum and am hoping someone can help me to register my "25 years off the road" Convertible. I have been working on it for a year, It was very rotten in all usual areas. All welding is now done, Engine rebuilt and running and most other mechanical work has been done. I have even started to paint panels and now thoughts are turning to the next obstacle. I bought the car with no ID or number plates. Chassis numbers have all disappeared. I believe I need someone linked with the MMOC to view the car, fill in a form and confirm the car is a genuine convertible? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Many thanks.

Its easy to tell if its a "genuine"convertible by the welds on the extra brackets at the bottom of the B posts and at each end of the dash to A post(quadrant shaped plate).Identifying it to get it a V5 will be one for advice from Pommreg on here. He'll be along shortly.

Can you possibly give more details of how you came to own it?Can't you get in touch with whoever you bought it from?Besides the obvious number plate,v5 and chassis plate there should be identification details stamped into the metalwork.

Hi again. I bought the car last year from a very well to do gent who lived in a massive house and also owned vintage Alvis and Rolls Royce, had his own light aircraft and landing strip in the garden He had the car many years [not sure how he acquired it] and just used it to drive around the estate. The floor had been changed years ago so no stamp under the seat. The only number is one stamped into the bulkhead under the N/S bonnet hinge area prefixed by the letter T. [Tourer ?] The strengthening brackets below dash and lower B posts are factory fitted as spot welded correctly.

Steve If you are a Club member the MMOC has a Technical Adviser Rob Thomasson who will help you with the re-registration. His details are in Minor Matters Page 3 Give him a ring and quote your membership number.

If you are not a member it might be worth joining (you can do this online) the Club. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?key=Membership :D

Steve.
If you have just the one plate, suggests a 1098 - only 5000 built at Cowley - if you can quote
the FULL number together with engine/gearbox & rear axle number, sure something that
can be done.

There were so few built after the Traveller caught up, should be an easy job for BMIHT to
locate via body number.

DVLA accepts body numbers - providing plates have NEVER been removed - along with TWO
unit numbers that match the Heritage Certificate.

Is there a number stamped into the engine compartment bulkhead near the accelerator cable?

The number tag near the bonnet hinge is...Z32511 then T41533. Can anyone advise me where abouts the numbers are stamped on the gearbox and Diff?
Thanks.

Body number will begin with a "7", prob early 1968(?) - equally could be late 1967 as
production slowed and was spread over many months.

M/AT5 11????? OR 12?????

If you google Minor Gearbox number/Rear Axle number should show
images showing their locations.

If you can supply those numbers, narrow it down.

I am going to get under the car and see if I can find the Diff and box numbers. The engine I know is not the original so that number will be of no use. There is no number in the common accelerator cable area. I think the number may have been stamped on the long gone original drivers floor. I will try to obtain necessary forms from DVLA in the meantime.

Thanks

Yes, chassis stamped into footwells on MAT 32's - providing the body plate is virginal - just
like this mysterious 19y/o blonde - along with TWO unit matches, you're nearly home and dry7

chassis nos is certainly between - using confirmed details - 1155xxx and 1224xxx - quote this as
it'll be helpful to BMIHT.

Have you any idea when it was last taxed and on the road?

Well, I have had a crawl around under the car today and finally found a number on the gearbox It looks like 162627. I have cleaned the diff tube in the stated area but found no trace at all of a number. There is no evidence of any grinding off or scrubbing so not sure why no number here. How are the screen and wiper motor marked? All I can find on the screen is the Triplex toughened logo with a few letters and numbers. I will check the wiper motor tomorrow.

number dates to the latter part of 1967 - poss crawled into 1968?

an uneducated guesstimate

I would e-mail BMIHT quoting the Gearbox and body number - codes were never recorded by BMC - so quote the T prefixed number only.
