I've seen the GPO stamp on tyres before, but have never seen the fleet number painted on the wheel.[frame]

One for POMM Reg
Working on SLM 454 today. One of the front wheels has the fleet number painted on 53776. The tyre has a stamp as well.

That tyre may be slightly past it's 'use by' date ... and the wheel may need some fettling!

Put it on a pre-1960 car which doesn't need an MoT......?

Re: One for POMM Reg
Came off a 1956 van. Wouldn't mind using that wheel again,as it's always been with the van. Anyone re-furb/repair wheels ?

Don't think Donald was very good with kerbs, but where are the kerbs in a forest ? Could this be posties in Grantown, mounting pavements, drag racing with 803's etc. Wot ever,I want to keep that wheel. So, PGO has gone, where will it end up this time ?

Re: One for POMM Reg
SLM 454 had gone through an overhaul at BB.
if indeed it IS SLM 454 - need to check body number, even then
there's assurance it has the original chassis!
First Minor Q hit the road in 10/53, so tyres available from then!

Thanks Chris I knew you would know

Re: One for POMM Reg
Ah, now that's interesting. Scottish Minors, going to Bamber Bridge for overhauls,as there was no central repair depot in Scotland. Bamber Bridge re- cut the tyre and stamped it ? I think I sent you the body numbers etc, but,if want them again, just ask. What was left of the chassis is still in Scotland,I'll contact Time Team to see if they can help me find it. Going to Avimore next week for a couple of days. Will also be visiting, Grantown On Spey. Anyone know where the GPO workshop/sorting office was in Grantown ?[frame]

You've been a great source of inspiration to me over the years. Few have the consistent drive for ex GPO/PO vehicles, good to know there are other idiots out there. Next wee job, over the weekend is to drop SLM's engine, into XXD's engine bay,and fire it up ![frame]POMMReg wrote:I'm not always right though, thankfully - very boring if I knew it all!irmscher wrote:Thanks Chris I knew you would know

Re: One for POMM Reg
1098 out, along with the gearbox. Just thought I would drop SLM's engine,as it's not seized, and see how it sounds. I have the engine and box out of 129 GPO. That will be the replacement for XXD's 1098. Bought it off a chap in South Wales a few moons ago,he had already chopped up poor old 129,TUT TUT !

ADR 396A(nee 129 GPO) was in good nick when I used to see it regularly
parked in Tivoli, Cheltenham - though that was 30yrs ago!
Cannot use an 803cc Adderley engine in a Cowley van, are you MAD?!
