Speedo Cable

Post by poplars »

I previously posted about my speedo making an awful noise and going from 30-70mph for a while and then settling down etc etc. Helpfully it was suggested to fit a new speedo cable. Any link to the exact thing I need from a reputable place that I can purchase online. May get the local mechanic to do it for me so I can learn how to do it this first time

Thanks as always! :D :D

Try MOSS - they may have a depot near you to save post costs? And ask for a Minor Catalogue - very handy...

Brill thanks... as its a traveller I assume its part GSD114 I need? Will I need anything else? Assume that should do for now.

If speedo in centre - GSD115. But it's not certain if the cable is the problem,,,, I would grease it first...

You are right.

It either needs greasing.
Needs a cable
or worst case needs a new speedo.

Either way it needs doing, and would rather have the cable in, as for £8 ish I'd rather have the cable there so if its required it can be done.... but first will try greasing when I take to local mechanic. Another little bit I will have learned.

Worst case scenario is I have a spare speedo cable.

May as well just fit the new if you buy it - but mechanic??? If you take every little job to the 'mechanic' it will cost you a fortune! The secret to Minor Ownership is DIY !!

As I have said before, given I have never done it just pointing someone in the direction of a users manual doesn't necessarily mean I can do it without seeing it being done first.

Alternatively I I can earn more in the time it would take me to do it then a rational choice would be to pay someone to do it the first time.

Think we've had this discussion re the fuel pump which luckily I was able to do myself. :)
