Ponder
Going through my lists I found a 2dr with a 12/59 body number which -
according to chassis production - was built 2/1/60.
Would this vehicle be MoT exempt?
Remembering BODY numbers were allocated BEFORE chassis numbers.
A pretty boring subject, perhaps even worse than Alan's pitiful post about
Blonde wives with kids being chased around Sunderland's supermarkets by
photographers.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Ponder
According to the DVLA that is incorrect for the V112 states that to be MOT exempt the vehicle needs to have beenchesney wrote:I think any vehicle built before 07/01/60 is exempt.
Which relating to the initial ponder would depend on what DVLA would use to date the vehicle the chassis number or body number.manufactured or registered before 1st January 1960
Re: Ponder
You gave the game away when you said 'built 2/1/60'....down to the MOT station for that one....

Re: Ponder
If 345678 is 12/12/59, but a vehicle with the build date of 1/1/60 has
the body number 345677.....is the vehicle classed as 1959 or 1960?
I suppose it's only a small point to ponder over, but quite interesting
if you're a boring old fart like me.

I'm guessing 'built' means the day it rolled off the line - complete. Not the day it had a body number attached...just before the workers sloped off home to celebrate Christmas! Uh oh - I used 'sloped' - is that ok ???

must check whether 1/1/60 was a week day. Not a b/h then.bmcecosse wrote:You gave the game away when you said 'built 2/1/60'....down to the MOT station for that one....

Who on here could i send my VIN number to so i could see when the car was made? the car went on the road on 15/01/60 and was told its MOT exempt by the last owner
the post office gave me the tax disc with just my insurance docs altho the reminder said the car should provide a valid MOT cert. im confused

DVLA go by the DoFR UNLESS you can prove otherwise.mark t4 wrote:Hi

Actual BD and DoFR dates can vary so much - Daisy May will
confirm this!!
Go onto the moggy site, get the dates from this.

Re: Ponder
A car first Reg in mid Jan 60 will almost certainly have been 'built' in 1959. I expect Gaydon will have the build date for you.

Roy's correct, can be DoFR'd from less than a month to 6mths after BD.bmcecosse wrote:A car first Reg in mid Jan 60 will almost certainly have been 'built' in 1959. I expect Gaydon will have the build date for you.
Usually get BD from chassis or body number, which saves you £40 - get a VC from
the MMOC (think it's free if you're a member).

You might get away with it, as long as you're not later caught reciting an earlier version of "eenie, meenie, miny, mo, catch a (presenter of a certain car show) by his toe..................I'm guessing 'built' means the day it rolled off the line - complete. Re: Ponder
NIGHTMARE for bodyshops using "Jigs"......
YIKES!
It's like banning Donkey's and Frizbies from beaches - gawd knows what would
happen if Donkey's could THROW Frizbies...
All thought up by some suit who has to do something to justify his job - all mad,
making a few quid out of it, so who's the mad one!
Returning to bodyshells,if, for example, a 1965 MG has been rebuilt using a heritage
bodyshell, does it retain its 1965 id?
blah blah
