I'm going to look at a convertible at the weekend can anyone tell me where the B post is as I understand you have to look for spot welding on the b post to tell if it's a genuine convertible, anyone able to put on a picture, also is spot welding a series of spots or am I stating the obvious,I' don't want to be caught out buying a poor example
Thanks

Re: B post
The B post is the part of the body immediately to the rear of the door. forms a "post" at the front end of the rear quarter panel.
A convertible will have a strengthening piece here, approximately wedge shaped going from about 12" above the inner sill down to the inner sill step. Spot welds actually look like small dimples rather than spots, about 4-5mm in diameter 3/16".
A converted convertible will have a weld seam here rather than original factory spot welds. Also look at the A pillar which should have strengthening plates joining the A pillar to the dash. And check the chassis number, saloons and convertibles have different prefixes (varies on the age of the car), there is a guide on this site.
A converted car is not necessarily bad, just not worth quite as much as a genuine.
