rear susspension

hi there to all
does anyone on here or no anyone who wants to fit a leaf spring kit and bushes
as I work 6 days a week and don't have much time to do so myself
I live in Dagenham Essex someone local if possible
but I can trailer it if need be as I cant drive 2 at once :lol:

I will be attempting this by myself next weekend is there anything I need 2 of as I will be solo
also is there anything major tool wise needed
any help knowing what else I need will be great

Just make sure the car is very well supported - so it doesn't fall on you! Do one side at a time... The front spring mounts can be v awkward and difficult to undo. Make sure you have release oil (NOT WD 40) on hand - and a good hot gas blow torch to heat difficult to undo nuts.. You may also want to fit new bump stops, and realise that (if original) the nuts etc will be Whitworth sized - so make sure you have the correct ring keys and sockets on hand ! Good luck with it!

Oddly, I just did one yesterday on a car! 1960 2 door saloon, new springs and bushes. was a bit trickier as the owner wanted these anti tramp bars fitted at the same time.

It is a straightforward job though, just support under the body and do one side at a time.

Order a complete set from ESM (or other supplier) and make sure you have new u bolts, bushes and even the plates that retain the U bolts and sandwich the leaf springs are often rusted and worn.

You will need Whitworth sockets (5/16) and possibly 9/16 AF if some bits have been changed for aftermarket parts.

If you're going to use "a good hot gas blow torch" as Roy suggested, make sure you have a good fire extinguisher on hand, "just in case".

my mate as brought round a oxy bottle a set of a/f spanners and a/f sockets also a nice large fire extinguisher
also some high lift axle stands and 2 high lift jacks
its good having a mate that works at a garage but he said we can you the stuff on a sunday as they donnot open
which is a result really

A/F won't be any use if the car still has original parts fitted - you will need WHITWORTH ring keys and sockets...... :roll:

Hi roy im a bit late I no but someone told him at work it would be WHITWORTH and 100% NOT METRIC so one of the older blokes lent him a set of them as well
