Help with heater valve.

Post by amgrave »

I have a 63 saloon with the round heater and a control for fresh or interior air. A previous owner has fitted the new type of heater control to the rear of the head, the one with the lever. It has not got a cable connecteted to it but has a piece of thick wire through the lever hole and held under the cable clamp loose enough to move it back and forth  . Can someone tell me if the control is open when the lever is toward the valve body or away from it. At a later date I might add a cable to operate it from the seat. Many thanks.

Test it by feeling the pipes! But straight up should be open.....where it should be left 365 days of the year - to keep water flowing round the back of the engine - and the heater. No need for a cable...
