WELDING SECTIONS

Post by LUR759H »

Hi guys,

A quick question for you, ive just welded the out side floor section on my traveler which is just under the back doors. The rust sections are still visible on the inside even though there are no holes, now the inner layer of metal i have not removed because it is what i have welded to. i hope you understand my english explanation. will it affect the MOT inspection or should i weld the inside and the outside of the car?

thank you

kind regards

You really should have removed the rusty bits first! MOT inspector will use his judgement to decide if the repair is adequate.

If it looks a good solid repair from underneath then it will probably pass an MOT. In my experience, inspectors never look under carpets.
Glad to be back!

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your comments however this is just inside the back doors where the wiring goes for the number plate. no carpets!

I don't think it will be an MOT problem, after all this how most of them repair rust.

The issue will be if you don't cut the rust metal away it will cause the new panel to rust too.

MOT inspectors are not allowed to lift carpets etc... A nice neat layer of rubber matting in that area will do nicely! And that's a handy place to keep your spare bottles of oil/water/brake fluid - and a small tool roll.
