If car is positive earth the body of the clock is positive and the insulated terminal negative.Test if the clock works with a couple of wires and a battery first.

it is original clock in the car
And when I bought the car it was disconnected. However the positive earth has bamboozled me (I am a newbie to all this).
However the clock is now ticking away merrily in its rightful home. And thank you all for your input. God bless to MMOC.
Don't be bamboozled! The positive earth is simpy that. The + side of the battery goes to the body/chassis of the car.The only time it should concern you is if you want to use a modern(well more recent)piece of electrical equipment(stereo, satnav etc)that uses negative earth. You can still use it but will have to make sure the casing of the item is electrically isolated.Unless originality is paramount you may consider replacing your dynamo with an alternator and changing to negative earth. Not overly expensive or difficult even for the inexperienced. There is plenty of info on this if you search the forum and users of this forum will help if you ask.
