Thinners/Syntolac ratio?

Hi,

Can anyone advise me please what ratio thinners I should use with a synthetic topcoat (Syntolac)?

Spec sheet here.5 or 6 to 1.Any particular reason you chose synthetic?

Thanks for the information and link.Very useful. The reason I chose synthetic is because the traveller that I am restoring has got so many different types of paint on it that I thought it would be better to use synthetic than cellulose.

What IS 'synthetic' ?? Surely all paints are synthetic - none are 'natural' !

many years ago ICI used to produce one called permobell,1st choice of the back street bodgers,would go on top of anything including pidgeon c....p.thick and sticky and took weeks to harden,and needed minimum prep.Looked a bit like dulux gloss. Was aimed at commercials where you couldn't get round a panel with celly before it was going off and therefore ended up with hard overspray lines which were a pain to get rid of,this took so long to go off that you could do half a roof ,go and have a pint and come back and do the otherside .But just wait till a proper paint was used on top,nothing,without a barrier coat,would hold out. Absolute bain and pain,when we used to come upon it in the garage.Suspect this will be the same.

BMC used a paint which was probably the same called Synobel on some Morrises from new. I did my sisters Standard 10 with it about 25 years ago and even managed to wet sand and buff it to a high lustre but it's not as tough as Celly which of course is not as tough as 2K. Synthetic is fine to keep a beater on the road though.

Back in the day the (very) few times I used synthetic the stuff I used was called KH.It was horrendous stuff to work with.It was so sticky!!!Because of the very slow drying it stuck to your hair,ears,face etc etc and smelt awful making me feel sick.As already stated it is a pretty sure way of reducing the possibility of reaction problems with previous coatings but personally I'd bite the bullet and totally strip the old stuff off to use 2k.
