Tyre sizes

Post by howard jones »

Hi
Can anybody tell me the tyre size ( radial ) on a standard Minor wheel rim ( late traveller ). My regular supplier is having difficulty cross referencing one to replace my spare.

The spare should be the same size as the tyres on the car...assuming you are now on radials - 145 X 80 X 14 is the correct size. Some use 155 X 80 X 14 - but these are really too wide for standard wheels.... Here you go - although it says 'winter tyre' it will be fine for all year use on a Minor. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINTER-TYRE-1 ... 3ce44840a7 If the car is still on Cross Ply tyres - I suggest it's time to change....... The size would be 5:20 X 14 Here's two......but at your own peril.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-20-14-Roads ... 51c209fb6a

Thanks for that BMC. My trav. has 4 Minator's and came with a standard rim / radial tyre as emergency spare.

You don't say what size those Minators are but if they are 155x14 you are laughing cos Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and the various other variations on the same theme are running around on them and Ive seen a variety of makes from here to Taiwan - your tyre man will have a choice for you. IF they are 145x14 the choice is somewhat more limited (and dear)

Just short of £70 delivered, popped round to the garage where I get the minor gets mot'd and it cost me £20 fitting and disposal. :D

They are a bit wide for standard rims...but that's a great price ! TFM keeps on commenting about 155 X 14 tyres on some small moderns - but they are NOT CORRECT PROFILE for use on a Minor. Minor uses 80 Profile tyres - unless going very wide on non standard wheels.. Low profile 155 tyres will not work well at all on standard 3.5" Minor rims - and the rolling radius will be reduced -and the wheel arches will look 'gaping' with the low section tyres not filling the space properly.

145/14/80 is the best currently available choice.

It is a shame that 135 tyres are no longer available as my Traveller steered exceptionally well with 135's on the front.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
