I've developed a new problem! Or rather the car has.
After a nice drive in the Chilterns yesterday I can say, with certainty, the problems mainly exist when going around corners.
Basically, the judders/stutters, and as soon as one straightens up, it's fine. Roundabouts are a nightmare at the moment.
I am pretty sure timing is about right and the ignition connections are all good, so I'm thinking it might be a fuel issue? On Sunday I drove through Sheffield and it did the same going up a few big hills, but the uphill thing seems okay now...
Thoughts? What can I look for?

Re: Stuttering when cornering
2 thoughts from me
1) fuel level in carb float bowl is very low
2) the 12v wires to coil / dizzy are slightly broken / making poor connection (and the conrnering G-force makes them disconnect)

Thanks Ray, I'd thought the same about the float bowl...It actually seemed to stick the other day, the pump slowly kept ticking and fuel spilled out everywhere. Tapping it with a percussive maintenance device worked - it seems.rayofleamington wrote:2 thoughts from me

Will I need a new valve/needle or should I check it for blockages?

Re: Stuttering when cornering
As above - 'surge' like that is not unknown in SU carbs - and is the reason the better HIF (Horizontal Integral Float) carb was developed. Usually down to LOW float level - although what you describe is HIGH float level/worn valve causing flooding... It was a serious problem on Spitfires (Supermarine....not so much Triumph..) and was fixed by Miss Shilling with her 'orifice'.... Do check however - is your float bowl dead vertical - not lying at an angle ?

Morris Minor, the car of the future. One day they will all look like this!
Re: Stuttering when cornering
Hahahahaha - great joke -Miss Shilling's Orifice......but it WORKED!! Until then the Spitfires had been seriously hampered in tight turns - the Fuel Injected Jerries having no such problems.......
Oh - and the HIF is not a complete cure - my HIF equipped Trav stutters badly on hard right turns........Grrrrrrr.
