Petrol filler rubber

Hello all,

I was going to replace the fuel filler rubber on my traveller because I thought a new one would seal better than the old dry one but I don't see how it's meant to seal the hole anyway. It seems to just sit on the outside against the panel. Surely it needs a lip to sit inside the hole like a windscreen rubber? Is there mean to be another rubber with it? Has anyone got a photo of a rubber seal in situ?

It's supposed to just sit on the outside against the panel - there isn't another rubber with it. Maybe use some dum dum or equivalent to seal it to the panel?

push it down tight to the body work it will be fine
maybe the new rubber wont last long
did the original perish

It hasn't perished but it's stiff and has started to flex the opposite way so won't sit against the outside panel. Also because I have the Ash veneer on the panel there is a raised grain so very difficult to get something to sit flat and achieve a water tight seal without sealant.

I'm thinking of putting a recessed fuel filler similar to a Defender or a Mini countryman/van. I can't find a repair panel from either of those though. Anyone know where I can get something like this.....

The one we got from BM sits 1/2 inside and 1/2 outside of the body, it was a tight fit getting the filler pipe through it after it was installed, used some liquid soap for a lubricant to help.

Ah. that's how I assumed it should be!

JLH offer a flush fit cap. I'm sure that it's available elsewhere too, but is not cheap.
