Checking / Topping up Gearbox & Diff Levels
Does the car have to be on level ground to check the levels in the gearbox and the diff ? I ask because i have a pair of drive on ramps so obviously the front or rear would be raised and i'm wondering if this would make the check inacurate.
Also what Gearbox Oil and Diff Oil would people best recommend ?
Many Thanks.

Re: Checking / Topping up Gearbox & Diff Levels
OK, sorry, just discovered that the gearbox filler is inside the car and should be filled with engine oil, mine is a series 2 ( it has a 1098 cc engine but i think it still has the 803 cc gearbox - it has the long gear lever further under the dash than the later ones ) and EP 90 for the diff.
So just for checking the diff, is it ok on the drive on ramps or better off on the ground ?

Ideally on level ground but not that critical. It will not make any difference on the diff as the filler is central

OK, thank you
i've got quite a slope into my garage and i recon if i position the rear wheels right on the top of the slope i can get to the filler with the car level, worth a go anyway !

I have now read the article. Jermey Clarkson is not known to me and why "slope" is a bad word, you will have to explain.

I too have never heard the expression.

Me neither - but Clarkson got a kicking for using it !! Take care....
