No pulling power.

Another job for me,i notice when i try to drive up a slope the car won,t pull it just wants to cut out probley another easy fix the engines ticking over fine no putt,putt out of it sound ok but the pulling power is terrible.Would this be points not set correctly,carb needing set?

Which engine do you have? Lack of bottom end grunt may be down to an inlet manifold leak (spray WD40 around it, and if it briefly raises the idle speed, you have a leak), points gap/timing not right, or carb mixture not right.

Or, it could be your clutch slipping - stick it in 4th, give it some revs and try pulling away; it should stall. If the engine spins but you don't move, the clutch needs replacing.

Hi.its the 1098cc engine in mine.I put a brand new clutch in when the engine was out.ticking over grand sounds ok to me could be the points setting alright.Any other ideas most welcome.

What spark plugs are you using, and when were they last replaced? Take them out and inspect the tips, which should all be a light tan colour.

If you have a compression gauge, do a compression test while the plugs are out; a healthy engine should read around 160-180 psi on all four cylinders.

Set the valve clearance on all valves and seems to be going grand just one little thing which is when ticking over theres popping coming from the airfilter i,m guessing maybe air and fuel mixture??

That's unusual! Unless an inlet valve is sticking open, could however be very wrong ignition timing.

Yeah its funny how it just started now after the valve settings are done.i think the fuel mixture could be too rich as inside my new exhaust is very black which i,m led to believe is too rich a mixture!

Hard to tell with just idling. Take it for a good long blast - then whip the plugs out - and tell us what colour they are.
