Removal of channels for Traveller sliding windows

Post by Kensyl »

Having trawled through all the comments on this topic I have yet to find comment on the ease (or otherwise!!!!) of actually removing the old channels. Having removed all the horizontal wooden slats and exposed the channels it SEEMS to be simple, but as we all know any work on a Moggy that LOOKS simple usually ain't!!! Also there seem to be numerous folk who had problems installing the new channels.
Perhaps, somewhere there is a blow by blow account of how to go about it.

Would welcome any assistance
Many thanks

Alan.
Thank you for your constructive comment. So glad you found it to be easy but then you are probably much more experienced than me.

The old channels will just pull out (and disintegrate). You might be left with old fixings, which will depend upon who fitted them - might be tacks or small screws which you need to remove before fitting new channels. I can recall writing what was almost a step-by-step post on this in answer to another question, so hopefully a search will find it.

Hi Kensyl,

Just to clarify mine were held in by dirt about 43 years of condensation and a tac at each end also the glass. If you're not planning on reusing them get a pair of pliers grip one end and pull.

Let us know how you get on

Kind regards

Alan

Thanks Alan.
Not re-using so it looks like the brute force and ignorance method.

Hiya Ken,

have you been working on the car today - have you managed your channels yet?

Regrettably, no, Alan.
Matters domestic intervened (I'm sure you have experienced such inconveniences!!) and I am committed to destroying my Son-in-Law's garden over the next few days!

Hopefully, sometime towards the end of next week, I will grit my teeth, bite the bullet etc etc. and extract the little blighters.

Fear not- I will keep you posted and many thanks for your continuing interest.
Kind regards
Ken
