tyre size

Post by chrisgriffiths »

Hi everyone
I've got to buy a couple of tyres for Mable. St present she's running on standard wheels with 145 x 14 tyres. Can I change the tyres to say 165 x 14. And if do what difference will it make if any. Could I also ask if I could fit two tyres of this size on the back and change the front tyres at s later date to match
Cheers

Chris

!65 tyres are too wide for standard wheels, stick to 145/80/14 or 155/80/14

Even the 155 are really too wide for standard wheels.....ideal for the 4.5" Van wheels.

The beauty of 155x14 tyres is that they are fitted to Toyota Aygos, Citroen C1s and others. The choice, therefore, is better and the price more affordable (and, maybe, even negotiable)! I would agree with bmc that they are technically a bit wide but I have been using them for (seems like) thousands of years now with no probs. I always use a tube (moggy rims were not designed for tubeless) so avoid tyres with sharp rings inside. The new wider rims being touted by ESM, Ware enterprises and others have a bead so can be used tubeless - think Minor Developments did some a few years ago, too.

As I have pointed out already - these 155 tyres you see on moderns will NOT be 80 section, and so will give a smaller rolling radius. They will also be fitted to wider wheels on the moderns - NOT 3.5 " wide Minor wheels !

The tyres for the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo are 155/65 x 14, which are about 5% smaller in rolling radius than the correct size for the Minor, 145/80x14.

And I bet it doesn't have them on 3.5" wheels......which will flex the side walls horribly...
