Phut phut phut

Post by stag36587 »

No I'm not swearing. I'm turning my attention to getting engine working smoothly as I come within a month or two (I hope) of putting car back on the road after 20
Years. The engine isn't running smoothly as I would like with a phut phut phut every second or so. Presume I can't post videos on here?

Can anyone suggest what is causing that sound? Engine starts on the button every time without fail. Spark plugs are clean and well adjusted. But I think engine is running a bit rich. Smells like it anyway.

Thanks

You can put a video on you tube then post a link here.
What effect does the lift pin on the carb have?
Does it ever need choke to start?

Ok might have a go at that. Interestingly this link was a bit dropped so I pushed it back upwards by about half an inch and the engine began to run a bit more smoothly. Looks a bit moist too?[frame]Image[/frame]

It is the jet - pulled down by the 'choke' (which isn't really a 'choke') - so you need to look at the 'choke' linkage to see why it wasn't being pushed fully home.

Or could be a jet that needs centralising. If it's off centre, it will be stiff and so more difficult to return.
