Making a Morris Car Seat Safe

Post by The Half Boy »

Hi guys,

I've got a 1970s LCV Van, which is my daily use car, but we're expecting a baby now, and I'll be in charge of picking the baby up from the nursery when maternity leave has ended, so I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on what can be done to make the passenger seat safe for use with a car seat. I've got inertia reels in already, but I was wondering if a change to the 'Mark III' seats that Charles Ware sells would help, although doing that in the driver seat might mean I've got even less leg space than I do now!

I've got a horrible feeling that I'll have to sell her and get a *shudder* modern car, but I wanted to explore any other possibilities first.

Thanks!

I doubt the 'seat' will be dangerous as long as the frame is not broken - does it fold forward ? I would want a fixed seat firmly bolted to the floor so it can't fold or tip. I do also wonder if 'inertia reel' belt will lock with the light weight of a child and seat...perhaps a fixed belt would be more secure?

Replace your existing seats for a set of say Ford Ka ones? The inertia seat belts will fit and the rear facing baby seat will sit on them without a problem. The safety belt fits around the childseat in slots specialy made for it. Keep the Morris seats for shows/later on.
