Alfies Revenge

Post by Kevin »

Well went to see a Trafalgar Blue saloon today as I fancy a colour change (Blue or Maroon) and if this one had been worthwhile (it wasnt) I would have to find Alfie a new owner, so to get his own back before I went to see the other car and as I pulled away a large puff of smoke came from the exhaust and then vanished after 30 seconds, so on checking it a couple of more times it would seem that the rings have started to playing up as there is no smoke on start up for 30 seconds and then it starts and dissapears after a further 30 seconds so it seems like an overhaul is now going to have to be done  . Unless anyone else can think of a lesser problem.
Cheers

You can get a cleaning agent that is meant to help sticky rings, but I'm not sure how effective it is.

Trying one of those to-night as my mate chris has his own version, I will let you know what happens.

Right after trying the recommended freeing agent (1/2 litre of desiel in the rocker box) it has not made any significant difference although for a day or two things did improve, so its an overhaul when the weather warms up, still at least it started after the MOT.

Alfie,

if it improved after adding stuff to the rocker box, could it be valve guides/oil seals?

can you get someone to follow you to see if there's blue smoke from the exhaust on overrun?

Valve guides/oil seals are a lot easier than rings!
