1964 4 door 1098 minor

Post by delwin »

Seen this little car, it was being MOT'd at a garage, It had to have 1 new wheel cylinder for its MOT so now has 12 months.
they and I assumed it'd been restored at sometime as it has no rust at base of doors or boot lid all seams under the car were good with no obvious rust the spring hangers were good.
inside is duotone and its in clarendon grey. only obvious fault was that the bonnet isn't closing as well as it should on the nearside - possible seized support. It's still on crossplies
Has some slight surface rust on the sills (they haven't got the covers on, jacking points look like new and dont have the rubber covers on them. rear wings also have very slight surface rust at bases where they fold under. Nearside front wing has taken a nudge but paint isn't scuffed or broken.

Owner has since called me to confirm that the mileage is correct at 18000 and it has been in 2 families from new...He wants 2600 for it, is this a good price

your comments appreciated

It's an ultra low mileage car - bite his arm off . I would not run on crossplies....mainly because they will be old and hard as h3ll.....with little grip. Could be a bargaining point to ease the price down slightly! 5 new tyres at £40 each.....

Got all the info on the car and agreed the deal - not sure what a genuine 18300 mile 1964 minor is worth. Anyone any ideas?

I have the original build sheet appx 3inch square bit of card with Chassis no, model etc and body was smoke grey, trim silver beige/blue grey, carpet blue, headlinnig light beige, de-luxe spec

All inside is like new back seats do not appear to have ever been used, headlining and window rubbers also like new, I have the original bill of sale from april 1964. Dealer Service history until 1971 when it had covered 12K in stamped BMC book and also receipts. Has some minor surface rust on sills and the chrome bumpers have seen better days. Engine is almost silent but all the hoses are rather ripe.

car is still on cross plies and need recommissioning as it has only covered 3 or 4 miles a year since 1998. Any tyres/tyre suppliers recommended as I can only find 145 14 bridgestones and they seem dear.

Thanks for your advice and help

Oh yes forgot about smoke grey. If it's as genuine as that, then it's got to be worth that if not more. The way Minor's are being priced lately the skies the limit.
