Rosie & I would like to introduce ourselves...

Post by Seren73 »

Good evening, I thought I'd best introduce ourselves before I started posting on here, so here goes. My name is Rachael & O live in S. Wales. I've always had a soft spot for all classic British cars ( I didn't actually own a foreign car until I was 31!) I've had several Minis, a traveller ( OGR 8H who was bought by a chap who had something to do with the Heritage Motor Museum) & a wonderful Austin Cambridge that I drove daily from S. Wales to Bristol, it was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned!
But it's the Moggies that are the cars that do it for me, we had several when I was a child growing up in the 70's, & my dad got back into the classic car world in the 90's with 1 or 2.
Sadly, my dad passed away in February this year , but I have taken on his Moggie, Rosie, so it's a lovely reminder of my dad. She's only had 2 previous owners ( my dad, & the original owner) my dad bought her in '92 with just 12,000 genuine miles on the clock. Unfortunately, due to ill health, he more or less kept her as a pet, doing just 3,000 miles in her since then. I've had her 4 months & done 300 miles & she hasn't skipped a beat, she drives beautifully & really makes me smile when we are out & about together.
Her paintwork is showing her age now, & she hadn't had a service, so we are off over to Charles Wares on Wednesday where she will have a small weld done underneath & a 6000 mile service. I'm very much loving forward to going over there & looking at all the cars in various stages of repair.
I'm a driving instructor by trade & sometimes I like to have a bit of fun & put the livery on Rosie & drive her around- we always get lots of waves!
Soooo, there you are! Now you know all about me & Rosie!:)[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Indeed, nice deep shine and depth of colour, very tidy too, you (and your dad previously) obviously take great care of her.
Don't forget to get a shot of yourself with Rosie for your album.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Thanks for the warm welcome. A quick update: we took Rosie over to Charles Ware's last week, & left her there for Phase 1 of her restoration. To my knowledge, in all the time my dad had her, & probably for a good part if her time at her first owners, she had not had a service. So she had a 6,000 mile service, a small patch welded on her underside, brake creep sorted out, a torsion bar re attached correctly, an MOT & an odd listing to the left was corrected too, along with a few other bits & bobs. I also had a pair of mirrors put on too- what a revelation! I can see where I'm parking now ! I'm £1,000 lighter, but it was well worth it as now she's running like a dream & I'm confident she's all ok.
I'm ashamed to say the whole experience over there made me cry. I found it a bit over whelming! Poor Tim who was dealing with us was very understanding though. I think it was a combination of seeing all the poor sad cars in the compound ( I get emotionally attached to old cars) & also because I can't share all this with my dad any more, he'd have been very interested & excited about all this.
Nevertheless, Rosie makes me really happy & I'm looking forward to Phase 2 of her restoration early next year when she will be going back to have a re spray & new, more more modern seats put in. I've wrestled with the idea of seats, as to be honest, I like my old cars as completely standard, but I have to be practical & think that newer seats that I can adjust might be a but more comfy for the pair of us.
I'm taking Rosie out today upto Monmouth as I'm doing a duathlon up there, looking forward to the drive, but not the event itself, I've done no training at all!:0
Here's some pics I took when over at C/W's...[frame]Image[/frame]
