Have you adjusted it Sandun? I really think you need to start looking for another regulator - OR - convert to an alternator !

Hi Sandun, 13.8 volts with battery connected is OK. Ammeter will not show any charge because the battery is charged.
Switch on the lights and measure volatge again, if it is still about 13.8 all OK.

Because the battery has not discharged.
Do as I say, switch on the lights and measure the voltage, if about 13.8 your battery is charged

That 12.4 is surprisingly low - you were going to buy a 'new' battery Sandun - is that with the new battery? When you switch off the car - does the voltmeter fall back to 'zero' or does it keep recording a voltage?

Mr Roy , the voltege readings from Smith battery condition indicater show not multimeter - ok today evining befor start the car check battery from my mulimeter it was 12.7 and after start the car i see the amper meter show charging again - but i dont know it will stop again - mr Roy ..yes it new battery - and yes the Smith meter back'' O'' when off the car , if digital multimeter show 12.7 , the smith meter read about close to 12v green, about 12 1/3 v from smith meter

You still havent done what I said.
Switch on the lights and measure the voltage with the engine running faster than tickover (1000 rpm) if the voltage is about 13.8 it is OK.

That sounds better Sandun. I was concerned that the volt meter was maybe draining current when the Ign was switched off.. Going to O is fine. I guess the regulator 'cut out' is just needing a fine adjustment....

See here... THE CUT-OUT the magnetic pull of the bobbin, preventing the cut-out
Jn practice of course all this switching is done contacts from chattering once they have closed.
automatically by another electro-magnetic relay Also, when the generator stops charging, the
called a " cut-out ". The winding for this cut-out momentary reverse current from the battery flows
is wound on a separate bobbin on the frame and through this series winding, creating a magnetic flux
connected across the generator between terminal D and which opposes and cancels the existing flux, and thus
earth. It is, then, a shunt winding as was the regulator quickens the opening of the contacts.
shunt winding - but we stress that the regulator and
cutout are two separate units. .
You will notice that the entire regulator frame is at
dynamo potential ; in more practical tenns, the
connection from D of the generator is actually attached
to the frame.
When the generator voltage rises sufficiently, the
cut-out contacts are closed against spring tension by
the magnetic pull from the cut-out bobbin and the
circuit between the generator and the battery is thus
closed.
When the generator speed is low or the engine
stationary, the contacts will break, thus preventrng
current flowing back from the battery through the
generator armature windings.
There is one important point to notice : all the
I
charging current from the generator passes through
the cut-out contacts and through a heavy " series "
winding on the cut-out bobbin. This current assists

This was written by 2 friends of mine many years ago in a book called "Hands on Morris Minors", it is still relevant today. It might help you to understand the "Regulator Box". You can still look it up in the works workshop manual, though I'm still not convinced you have a problem from what you describe.
